Book Release at Vice-President’s Enclave
Vice-President of India C. P. Radhakrishnan released the book “Economic Empowerment of Bharat in the Modi Era” at the Vice-President’s Enclave in New Delhi. Authored by Sikander Kumar , the book offers a detailed assessment of India’s economic journey over the last decade under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi , focusing on reforms, governance changes and global repositioning.
India’s Economic Rise and Global Position
Speaking at the event, the Vice-President described the publication as a compelling account of India’s renewed economic confidence. He noted that Bharat has emerged as the fourth-largest economy in the world by nominal GDP and continues to be the fastest-growing major economy . This progress, he said, reflects macroeconomic stability, decisive policymaking and long-term reform orientation.
Structural Reforms and Governance Philosophy
The book documents key structural reforms, including the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code , banking sector clean-up, and expansion of digital governance. The Vice-President observed that these reforms dismantled entrenched inefficiencies and improved transparency. The principle of “Minimum Government, Maximum Governance” , he added, has evolved from a slogan into an effective administrative framework that promotes accountability and institutional discipline.
JAM Trinity and GST Transformation
Highlighting inclusive growth, Radhakrishnan said the JAM trinity—Jan Dhan, Aadhaar and Mobile— has transformed welfare delivery. Over ₹47 lakh crore has been transferred through Direct Benefit Transfers , sharply reducing leakages. He also described the Goods and Services Tax (GST) as a historic reform that unified India into a single market, improved compliance and strengthened cooperative federalism by removing interstate trade barriers.
Self-Reliance and the Viksit Bharat Vision
The Vice-President noted that initiatives such as Digital India, Make in India, Startup India , and the rapid growth of UPI have empowered entrepreneurs and small businesses. He said Aatma Nirbhar Bharat signifies a strategic shift towards self-reliance, supporting India’s vision of Viksit Bharat@2047 , which seeks balanced growth, social justice, sustainability and technological leadership.
