Veteran Filmmaker M. M. Baig Found Dead at Mumbai Residence

Hindi Cinema Director M. M. Baig Passes Away in Mumbai

Veteran Hindi filmmaker M. M. Baig was discovered dead at his Mumbai residence earlier this week. He was in his seventies and had reportedly been dealing with health issues. The development was confirmed by his publicist, Hanif Zaveri , who stated that neighbours alerted authorities after noticing an unusual smell and Baig’s absence for several days.


Discovery and Police Response

According to available information, Baig had not been seen outside his home for four to five days. Concerned neighbours contacted the police after detecting a foul odour from the premises. Officials entered the residence and found his body inside.

His daughter was promptly informed. The body was subsequently transported to Cooper Hospital, Mumbai , for a post-mortem examination. Initial reports indicated no immediate evidence of foul play, with authorities proceeding under routine investigative protocols.


Contributions to Hindi Cinema

Baig began his career as an assistant director, collaborating with prominent filmmakers including J. Om Prakash , Vimal Kumar , and Rakesh Roshan . He was associated with several mainstream Hindi films such as Aadmi Khilona Hai , Jaisi Karni Waisi Bharnii , and Kishen Kanhaiya .

He later moved into direction, helming projects like Massom Gawah , featuring Naseeruddin Shah , and Chhoti Bahu . Though some of his directorial ventures did not achieve wide theatrical exposure, Baig remained respected within industry circles.


Mentorship and Legacy

Baig shared a long-standing professional relationship with Rakesh Roshan and is remembered for mentoring Hrithik Roshan prior to his debut in Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai . His guidance reportedly focused on diction and dialogue delivery.

Baig was also known as the father of former child actor Baby Guddu (Shahinda Baig), a familiar presence in 1980s Hindi cinema.
