Union Cabinet Approves Two New Semiconductor Projects Under India Semiconductor Mission

is widely used in next-generation electronics.

Production Capacity of the Dholera Facility

The facility will produce:

  • 72,000 square meters of Mini/Micro-LED display panels annually
  • 24,000 RGB wafer sets every year

These products are used in:

  • Smart televisions
  • Commercial display systems
  • Smartphones
  • Tablets
  • Automotive displays
  • Smart wearable devices
  • XR (Extended Reality) glasses

This project places India in an important position in advanced display technology.

Suchi Semicon’s OSAT Facility in Surat

The second project will be developed by Suchi Semicon Private Limited in Surat.

This project focuses on:

  • Semiconductor assembly
  • Testing and packaging

This type of facility is called an OSAT unit.

What Is an OSAT Facility?

OSAT stands for Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test.

These facilities:

  • Package semiconductor chips
  • Test chip performance
  • Prepare chips for commercial use

OSAT units are an important part of the semiconductor supply chain.

Production Capacity of the Surat Facility

The Surat unit will produce around:

  • 1,033 million chips annually

These chips will mainly support:

  • Automotive industries
  • Consumer electronics
  • Industrial automation systems

This will strengthen India’s backend semiconductor infrastructure.

Economic and Employment Impact

The projects are expected to create over 2,200 skilled jobs.

They will also:

  • Increase domestic manufacturing
  • Reduce import dependence
  • Promote high-technology industries

This can support long-term economic growth.

India’s Growing Semiconductor Ecosystem

India is rapidly expanding its semiconductor sector.

Under the India Semiconductor Mission:

  • 315 academic institutions are being supported
  • 104 startups are working in chip
