UMEX–SimTEX 2026 Opens in Abu Dhabi
The Unmanned Systems Exhibition (UMEX) and the Simulation and Training Exhibition (SimTEX) opened on January 20 at the ADNEC Centre , bringing together global leaders in unmanned systems, robotics, simulation and training technologies. Running until January 22, the twin exhibitions underline Abu Dhabi ’s expanding role as a hub for autonomous and intelligent systems.
Record Participation and International Footprint
Now in their seventh edition, UMEX and SimTEX have recorded their highest participation since inception in 2015. A total of 375 companies and brands from 38 countries are taking part, including 10 first-time exhibitors. International participants make up about 55 per cent of exhibitors, while the UAE pavilion is the largest, reflecting strong domestic capabilities in advanced and emerging technologies.
Live Demonstrations and AI-Human Interface
One of the highlights of the exhibitions is a live artificial intelligence versus human pilot drone challenge, organised in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League. The event demonstrates rapid progress in autonomous flight, real-time decision-making and AI-enabled control systems. Strategic partner EDGE Group is showcasing a wide portfolio of indigenous unmanned and advanced defence technologies, reinforcing the UAE’s emphasis on self-reliance and innovation.
Defence, Security and Civilian Applications
The exhibitions feature live demonstrations of unmanned aerial and ground vehicles, counter-drone systems and AI-driven operational scenarios. While defence and security applications remain central, significant attention is also given to civilian and dual-use technologies. Sectors such as logistics, energy, agriculture, smart cities and public safety are increasingly adopting autonomous systems, highlighting the convergence of military and commercial innovation.
