NITI Aayog Expands Innovation Push with State Innovation Mission in Tripura
The Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) under NITI Aayog has operationalised India’s first State Innovation Mission (SIM) in Tripura under AIM 2.0. Anchored within the State Support Mission (SSM), SIM aims to embed entrepreneurship and innovation into the State’s development architecture. The launch in Agartala was attended by Manik Saha and senior Union and NITI Aayog officials.
Institutional Architecture and T-NEST
SIM will be institutionalised through the Tripura Institution for Transformation (TIFT), providing policy coordination and ecosystem design. A flagship incubator—T-NEST (Tripura: Nurturing Entrepreneurship and Startups)—has been inaugurated to catalyse “Make from Tripura” ventures. District Innovation Centres across all eight districts will connect to T-NEST, with targeted outreach to women and tribal entrepreneurs to ensure inclusive participation.
District Innovator Fellowship and AI Roadmap
Tripura has introduced a District Innovator Fellowship (DIF) to identify grassroots innovators and support them across ideation, prototyping and scale-up. The State also signalled a comprehensive AI Policy aligned with responsible and inclusive AI principles, alongside a proposal for an AI City in Agartala to advance digital governance and industry partnerships.
Building a State-Led Innovation Ecosystem
Through SIM, AIM will co-design a multi-year innovation blueprint with the State—covering capacity building, mentorship networks, funding access and school-level innovation exposure. The framework emphasises lifecycle support, peer learning and trial-and-adopt pathways to help startups cross conventional risk thresholds.
