The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2026 is on: Pilgrimage in 2026

Introduction: A Spiritual Journey Returns

The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2016 has been announced by the Government of India. The yatra will be held between June and August 2026.

This will be the revival of one of the holiest border pilgrimages in Asia. The Ministry of External Affairs has initiated this yatra in consultation with China.

It will provide an opportunity for devotees to visit Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar.

Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2026 Routes

There are two routes open for the yatra. Both of them have something unique.

1. Lipulekh Pass (Uttarakhand)

This is the traditional Lipulekh Pass route.

  • It's a trek through the Himalayas
  • It is physically demanding
  • It is spiritually fulfilling

It is the best route for traditionalists and those looking for a challenge.

2. Nathu La Pass (Sikkim)

The Nathu La Pass is an alternative.

  • It's mostly by road
  • It's good for the aged
  • It is less physically demanding

More people can perform the pilgrimage.

Batch Structure and Participation

The yatra will be conducted in an organised and safe manner.

  • Total batches: 20
  • Pilgrims per batch: 50
  • Batches via Lipulekh: 10
  • Batches via Nathu La: 10

Overall, nearly 1,000 pilgrims will go on the 2026 yatra.

This ensures effective management and safety.

Application and Selection Process

The entire process is online.

  • Online application at the portal
  • Random selection is done by computer
  • Gender balance is maintained
  • It's fair and transparent

The process is fair and efficient.

Religious and Cultural Importance

Devotees of many faiths see the yatra as important.

  • Mount Kailash is home to Lord Shiva for the Hindus
  • Buddhists believe it is an image of Mount Meru
  • Jains believe it is where Rishabhdev became enlightened

Parikrama (walking around) of Mount Kailash is significant. It cleanses one of sins and brings peace.
