Republic Day Honours Highlight Madhya Pradesh’s Policing Excellence

On the eve of Republic Day 2026 , the Union government released the list of gallantry and service medal awardees, recognising outstanding contributions to internal security, public safety, and national service. Madhya Pradesh featured prominently in the list, with multiple officers and personnel from the state police force receiving prestigious honours for distinguished and meritorious service.


President’s Medal for Distinguished Service

The President’s Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM) was awarded to four senior officers from Madhya Pradesh, acknowledging their sustained leadership, operational excellence, and long-term commitment to policing standards. The recipients include:

  • Santosh Kumar Singh , Commissioner of Police

  • Mithelesh Kumar Shukla , Inspector General

  • Awadhesh Kumar Goswami , Deputy Inspector General

  • Shiv Kumar Patel , Inspector

The PSM is among the highest service recognitions in Indian policing, conferred for exceptional service over an extended period.


Medal for Meritorious Service Across Ranks

In addition, 17 personnel from the Madhya Pradesh Police were conferred the Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM) . The awardees span a wide spectrum of ranks, reflecting professionalism and dedication at all operational levels. Senior officers such as Inspector General Krishnaveni Desavatu and Superintendents of Police Manoj Kumar Rai, Gitesh Kumar Garg, and Durgesh Kumar Rathore were among those honoured.

Personnel from the Armed Reserve Motorised Regiment, along with deputy superintendents, inspectors, sub-inspectors, assistant sub-inspectors, head constables, and constables, were also recognised—underscoring the depth and resilience of the force.


Nationwide Recognition of Service and Gallantry

The Ministry of Home Affairs noted that 982 personnel nationwide were honoured this year across police, fire services, home guards, civil defence, and correctional services. These awards are announced biannually—on Republic Day and Independence Day —to acknowledge gallantry, distinguished leadership, and meritorious service in safeguarding citizens and maintaining law and order.
