The project derives its name from the word "Udayak," which means "Rising Sun." The name reflects the fact that the first rays of the rising sun in India fall within the project's Area of Responsibility (AOR).

History of Project UDAYAK
Project UDAYAK was raised on 1 June 1990 at Doomdooma in Assam.
The project was created during a restructuring exercise undertaken by the Border Roads Organisation. The objective was to focus greater attention on the infrastructure needs of India's far-eastern frontier regions.
To establish the project, two Border Roads Task Forces (BRTFs) were reorganized:
- 48 Border Roads Task Force (48 BRTF)
- 752 Border Roads Task Force (752 BRTF)
These task forces were carved out from Project Vartak and Project Sewak respectively. They became the two operational arms of Project UDAYAK.
Since its establishment, the project has continuously expanded its activities and strengthened border infrastructure in difficult terrain.
