Project Chetak Marks 47 th Raising Day.
In Bikaner, Rajasthan, the 47 th Raising Day of Project Chetak was observed and the role of this project in the connectivity of the border and national security was emphasized. The project, which was undertaken by the Border Roads Organisation, is important in enhancing infrastructure on the western side of India.
Project Chetak Overview.
Project Chetak was started in the year 1980 and it is located in a strategic sector in India which is the west. It covers the states of Rajasthan, Punjab and northern Gujarat, and as such it is one of the largest BRO projects based on geographical coverage. It is mainly concerned with the construction and reconstruction of roads in border areas.
Strategic Significance and Infrastructure.
The project operates more than 4,000 kilometres of road network and 214 kilometres of ditch-cum-bund. These facilities play a vital role in troop mobility, logistics and surveillance in the areas around the International Border. The project facilitates local economic growth as well as defence preparedness by enhancing connectivity in remote locations.
Armed Forces Support and Upgradation.
Project Chetak is also in charge of maintaining feeder roads that serve border areas; these are essential in ensuring that the military can deploy forces fast. Continuous development sees a move towards turning roads into national highways (doubling) to improve the speed and efficiency. It has a motto of Chetak ka Prayas, Desh ka Vikas, which shows its emphasis on infrastructure based national development.
