Gallantry Awards 2026 Honour Exceptional Courage and Service
On the eve of India’s 77th Republic Day , President Droupadi Murmu approved gallantry awards for 70 personnel of the Indian Armed Forces , recognising extraordinary bravery, leadership, and sacrifice across a range of challenging operational environments. Of these, six awards will be conferred posthumously , reflecting the ultimate price paid in the line of duty. The honours will be formally presented during the Republic Day celebrations, reaffirming the nation’s gratitude to its soldiers, sailors, and air warriors.
Gallantry Awards Approved for Republic Day 2026
As per the official announcement, the list of decorations includes the full spectrum of India’s peacetime gallantry honours. These awards recognise acts of courage during counter-terrorism missions, hazardous operations, and exceptional service under extreme conditions across the Army, Navy, and Air Force .

Highest Decorations and Notable Recipients
The Ashok Chakra , India’s highest peacetime gallantry award, has been approved for Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla . He is being honoured for his historic achievement as the first Indian to visit the International Space Station , a feat recognised as an exceptional contribution to national prestige and human endeavour.
The Kirti Chakra has been sanctioned for Group Captain Prasanth Balakrishnan Nair , Major Arshdeep Singh , and Naib Subedar Doleshwar Subba for distinguished acts of bravery. In addition, Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth has been approved for the Uttam Yudh Seva Medal in recognition of exemplary leadership and sustained service to the nation.
Shaurya Chakra and Unit-Level Excellence
Thirteen personnel will receive the Shaurya Chakra for conspicuous gallantry. The awardees come from elite formations such as Para (Special Forces) , Assam Rifles , Rashtriya Rifles , and the Indian Navy , highlighting operational excellence across diverse theatres. The list includes officers, junior commissioned officers, and other ranks, underscoring that courage and professionalism cut across hierarchies.
The recognition of Assistant Commandant Vipin Wilson also reflects the critical role played by central armed police forces alongside the military in maintaining internal security and conducting high-risk operations.
