PM to Inaugurate Asia’s Tallest Lord Ram Statue in Goa
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Canacona, Goa , where he will unveil a 77-feet bronze idol of Lord Ram , officially recognised as the tallest statue of Ram in Asia. The ceremony will be part of the grand 550th-year celebrations of the historic Shree Samsthan Gokarn Partagali Jeevottam Mutt , one of India’s oldest and most respected monastic establishments. The event will also feature the launch of a commemorative coin and postal stamp , commemorating the milestone.
Cultural Importance and Heritage Legacy
The Partagali Mutt, with centuries of spiritual stewardship, has been a centre of cultural learning and social reform for the Saraswat community and Hindu worshippers across regions . The statue, sculpted by acclaimed artist Ram Sutar , is expected to become a landmark for devotees and tourists, reinforcing the mutt’s identity as a pilgrimage destination rooted in Indian tradition.
Celebrations and New Developments
The Sardha Panchashatamahotsava — the special anniversary celebration — will continue for 11 days from November 27 to December 7 , featuring satsangs, cultural performances, religious dialogues and visits from heads of several maths. A 10,000-sqft Ramayan-themed museum housing ancient artefacts, coins, and stamps will soon open, while a Ramayan Theme Park is also under development, expanding the mutt’s cultural and educational outreach.
Security Measures for Prime Minister’s Visit
Ahead of the event, a temporary drone and aerial-camera ban has been enforced within a two-kilometre perimeter of the venue under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita .
