The victory became a rallying symbol for anti-colonial resistance worldwide, inspiring movements for freedom, unity and self-determination across the continent and beyond.

Adwa Victory Monument and Museum

The Adwa Victory Monument is a contemporary commemorative complex dedicated to Ethiopia’s freedom struggle. It houses a museum featuring artefacts, weaponry and immersive dioramas that narrate the battle and its wider historical context. The complex also includes conference facilities, an amphitheatre and a library, positioning it as a hub for cultural exchange, research and tourism. During his visit, Prime Minister Modi toured the museum and received briefings on the enduring relevance of Adwa in shaping African and global history.

Parliamentary Address and Diplomatic Engagements

Prime Minister Modi also addressed a joint session of the Ethiopian Parliament , earning a standing ovation. This marked the 18th national parliament addressed by him worldwide. The two-day visit, at the invitation of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali , reflected the momentum in bilateral ties. In a notable gesture of warmth, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed personally received PM Modi at the airport and accompanied him to key sites, including the Science Museum and Friendship Park.
