Delhi Metro Expansion: Pink Line Ring Corridor and Magenta Line Extension Launched
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated two new corridors of the Delhi Metro , marking a major advancement in the capital’s urban transport infrastructure. The launch includes the Majlis Park–Maujpur-Babarpur section of the Pink Line and the Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park extension of the Magenta Line . These additions are expected to improve connectivity in north and northeast Delhi while strengthening the efficiency of the city’s metro network.
Pink Line Forms India’s First Ring Metro
The Majlis Park–Maujpur-Babarpur corridor stretches about 12.3 kilometres and consists of multiple elevated stations. With this addition, the Delhi Metro Pink Line now extends to approximately 71.56 kilometres , forming a continuous loop around several parts of the city. This configuration makes it India’s first fully operational Ring Metro system .
The corridor includes stations such as Majlis Park, Burari, Jharoda Majra, Jagatpur-Wazirabad, Soorghat, Nanaksar-Sonia Vihar, Khajuri Khas, Bhajanpura, Yamuna Vihar and Maujpur-Babarpur. A notable engineering feature of this section is a bridge across the Yamuna River , along with a double-decker viaduct that accommodates both a metro line and a road flyover.
Magenta Line Extension in North Delhi
The second project inaugurated is the Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park corridor , an extension of the Delhi Metro Magenta Line . This elevated stretch covers nearly 9.9 kilometres and includes stations such as Deepali Chowk, Madhuban Chowk, Uttar Pitampura-Prashant Vihar, Haiderpur Village, Haiderpur Badli Mor, Bhalswa and Majlis Park.
With this expansion, the Magenta Line now reaches a total length of around 49 kilometres . Certain segments of the corridor rise to nearly 28.36 metres above ground , making them among the highest elevated tracks within the Delhi Metro system.
Future Corridors Under Phase-V Expansion
The Prime Minister also laid the foundation for three new corridors under Delhi Metro Phase-V (A) . These include an underground route from Ramakrishna Ashram Marg to Indraprastha , as well as extensions of the Delhi Metro Golden Line connecting Aerocity to Indira Gandhi International Airport Terminal 1 and Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj.
