Operation Parhar Launched to Combat Organised Crime in Punjab
The Punjab Police has launched Operation Parhar , a large-scale, intelligence-driven crackdown aimed at dismantling organised gangster networks and restoring public safety across the state. The operation represents one of the most extensive coordinated law enforcement actions in recent years and signals a zero-tolerance approach towards organised crime.
Statewide Raids and Massive Operational Deployment
Under Operation Parhar, nearly 2,000 police teams involving about 12,000 personnel have conducted simultaneous raids across Punjab. The operation targets individuals involved in violent crimes, extortion, illegal arms trafficking and other organised criminal activities. The coordinated nature of the action is intended to deny criminal groups the opportunity to evade enforcement by shifting locations or exploiting jurisdictional gaps.
Mapping Gangsters and Their Support Networks
Addressing the media in Chandigarh , Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav stated that law enforcement agencies have identified around 60 active gangsters and nearly 1,200 associates operating within the state. He emphasised that the focus extends beyond arrests to dismantling the entire criminal ecosystem, including funding channels, logistics support, safe houses, illegal weapons supply lines and communication networks.
Citizen Participation Through Dedicated Helpline
To strengthen community involvement, Punjab Police have launched a dedicated Anti-Gangster Helpline — 93946-93946 . Citizens are encouraged to share information related to gangster activity in their areas. Authorities have assured that the identity of informants will remain confidential, aiming to build trust and promote wider public cooperation in crime prevention.
