One Station One Product: Railways Driving Grassroots Entrepreneurship
The One Station One Product (OSOP) initiative of Indian Railways has evolved into a nationwide platform that connects local producers directly with consumers. By turning railway stations into vibrant marketplaces for indigenous goods, the scheme promotes traditional crafts, strengthens rural livelihoods, and enhances the cultural experience of millions of passengers every day.
Nationwide Rollout and Growing Reach
Launched in 2022, the OSOP initiative has expanded rapidly across the country. As of January 19, 2026, OSOP stalls are operational at more than 2,000 railway stations, with over 2,300 outlets in service. Leveraging the enormous daily footfall at stations, the scheme ensures sustained visibility and steady demand for local products.
Direct Economic Benefits for Artisans
The Ministry of Railways reports that more than 1.3 lakh artisans, weavers, self-help group members and small entrepreneurs have directly benefited from OSOP. By removing middlemen, the scheme allows producers to sell at fair prices, improving income stability and encouraging small-scale entrepreneurship. For many first-generation entrepreneurs, railway stations have become their most reliable retail platforms.
Showcasing India’s Cultural Diversity
OSOP outlets mirror India’s regional richness. Passengers encounter bamboo and cane crafts from the Northeast, handloom textiles from eastern and southern states, terracotta and pottery from central India, traditional snacks, sweets, spices and local agro-products. This has redefined railway stations as cultural gateways rather than mere transit points.

Reviving Traditional Skills and Inclusive Growth
Beyond commerce, OSOP is playing a role in preserving traditional skills that were losing market relevance. Regular exposure to a national consumer base has revived demand for handcrafted products and encouraged younger generations to continue traditional occupations. By integrating livelihood generation with cultural promotion, Indian Railways has positioned OSOP as a scalable model of inclusive, locally rooted economic development.
