Centre–State Strategy Meet to Shape India’s Global Textile Manufacturing Ambition
The Ministry of Textiles , in collaboration with the Government of Assam , will organise the National Textiles Ministers’ Conference on 8–9 January 2026 in Guwahati . The two-day conference will act as a national coordination platform to align Central and State policies for positioning India as a globally competitive textiles manufacturing hub.
Theme and National Vision
The conference will be held under the theme “India’s Textiles: Weaving Growth, Heritage & Innovation.” It aligns with India’s long-term objective of building a USD 350 billion textile industry and achieving USD 100 billion in textile exports by 2030 . Union and State Ministers of Textiles, along with senior government officials, will deliberate on policy coherence, investment mobilisation, and structural reforms across the entire textile value chain.
Key Sessions and Focus Areas
The agenda includes focused discussions on infrastructure development, investment promotion, export expansion, competitiveness, and access to raw materials and fibres. Emerging areas such as technical textiles , innovation, and research and development will receive special attention. The conference will also prioritise the revitalisation of traditional sectors, particularly handlooms and handicrafts , to ensure their integration with modern design, technology, and global markets.
Inaugural Session and North-East Conclave
The inaugural session on 8 January 2026 will be attended by Union Minister of Textiles Giriraj Singh , Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma , and Minister of State for Textiles Pabitra Margherita , among other dignitaries. A dedicated North-East Textiles Conclave will focus on silk, handloom, bamboo-based textiles, women-led enterprises, and branding “Textiles from North-East” for national and global integration.

Exhibition and Regional Participation
Ministers and officials from States and Union Territories will share best practices to strengthen regional textile ecosystems. A national exhibition of Indian handlooms and handicrafts, organised by the Development Commissioners (Handlooms and Handicrafts), will showcase India’s rich textile heritage alongside innovation and market readiness.
