I4C Hosts National Meet to Strengthen Action Against Online Crimes

Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan inaugurated the National Dialogue on Online Crimes Against Women and Children in New Delhi . The programme was organised by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre under the Ministry of Home Affairs . The event brought together representatives from law enforcement agencies, government institutions, digital platforms, academia and civil society to develop strategies to tackle cyber offences targeting women and children.

Rising Threat of Online Crimes

During the address, Govind Mohan highlighted the growing risks associated with the rapid expansion of digital technologies. Increased internet penetration and social media usage have created new opportunities for cyber offences, particularly those targeting vulnerable groups.

He stressed the need for stronger institutional mechanisms across states and Union Territories to ensure effective investigation and response to such crimes. States were encouraged to establish specialised cyber units dedicated to addressing online offences against women and children.

Role of Law Enforcement and Digital Platforms

The Home Secretary urged law enforcement agencies to treat cases involving online crimes against women and children with high priority. Swift investigation, victim protection and coordination with digital service providers were identified as key factors in addressing these crimes effectively.

He also called on internet intermediaries and social media companies to comply with the provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000 and related rules. Cooperation between law enforcement agencies and digital platforms is essential for tracking offenders and removing harmful content from the internet.

Master Trainers Induction Programme

A Master Trainers Induction Programme was launched during the event to enhance the investigative capacity of law enforcement personnel. The initiative aims to build a nationwide network of trained officers with specialised knowledge of cybercrime investigation.

These officers will subsequently conduct training sessions for police personnel at state and district levels, strengthening the overall capability of the system to deal with digital offences.

Building a National Response Framework

The dialogue provided an important platform for sharing knowledge on emerging cybercrime trends and developing coordinated responses. Participants discussed topics such as digital forensics, faster complaint redressal mechanisms, improved victim support systems and stronger collaboration with technology companies.

The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to building a safer digital environment for women and children.
