Justice Anupinder Singh Grewal has been appointed by the Government of India as the President of the National Company Law Tribunal.

Justice Grewal will take service:

Five years term , or
The latter till the age of 67 , whichever shall happen first.

The National Company Law Tribunal is a quasi judicial tribunal. It operates on the Companies Act 2013.

The appointment of an acting president had been questioned in the case. The problem was now null since a full-time president was on board.

The petitioner argued:

The most senior member must be one that is appointed.
Promoting seniority on the basis of date of joining should be the case.

The Centre responded:

The oldest member of the judiciary is normally selected.
This is in accordance with convention.

The absence of explicit statutory guidelines resulted in confusion. This matter was transferred to courts and tribunals and was sent back to the High Court.
