NBA Launches Short-Term Internship Programme for Biodiversity Conservation

Biodiversity Samrakshan Internship Expands Youth Engagement in Environmental Governance

The National Biodiversity Authority has introduced a short-term internship programme of up to three months to enhance practical exposure in biodiversity conservation. The initiative aims to build skills, awareness and career opportunities among students.

Short-Term Internship Initiative

The programme targets undergraduate and postgraduate students, offering hands-on experience through participation in ongoing projects and institutional activities. It focuses on bridging the gap between theoretical learning and field-based application, enabling students to understand real-world conservation challenges.

Biodiversity Samrakshan Internship Programme (BSIP)

Alongside the short-term initiative, the NBA continues its flagship Biodiversity Samrakshan Internship Programme (BSIP), a long-term programme lasting one year and extendable up to three years. In its current cycle, 24 interns have been deployed across State Biodiversity Boards and Union Territory Biodiversity Councils, contributing to field studies, awareness campaigns and administrative tasks.

Collaborative Framework and Objectives

The BSIP operates through collaboration between the Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change, NBA and United Nations Development Programme. It follows a nationwide selection process and aims to create a skilled workforce equipped with practical knowledge in biodiversity governance and conservation.

Significance of the Initiative

The NBA invests nearly ₹1 crore annually in these programmes, reflecting its commitment to youth participation in environmental management. By integrating students into institutional frameworks, the initiative strengthens grassroots conservation efforts and prepares a future-ready workforce.
