Bihar government headed by the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has introduced the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojna to increase the number of women employed and help them earn their living independently. The scheme gives economic support to one woman in every family to launch a business to empower women and reduce migration through creation of jobs within the nation.
Scheme Features
- Women entrepreneurs shall be given 10,000 in the first instalment, and the money shall be directly credited to their bank accounts beginning September 2025.
- Six months down the line, businesses will be reexamined and successful women can get another grant of up to 2 lakh.
- Rural Development Department will be implemented in the villages and Urban Development and Housing Department will be implemented in the cities.
- Local haat bazaars and markets will be established to help women entrepreneurs to sell their products.
Eligibility
- Each family may apply one of its women.
- The help is provided in the form of a grant rather than a loan, which means that no debt is owed.
Empowerment of Women in Bihar.
Since 2006, the state of Bihar has been leading the process of women empowerment by allotting 50 percent seats to women in local bodies which resulted to 57 percent representation. In 2016, the government also implemented prohibition in response to the demand of the women, as well as education policies such as free uniforms, bicycles, scholarships, and new schools and colleges.
Social security and Livelihood support.
- The monthly women pension increased to 1,100 (up to 1.12 crore women) which was originally increasing to 400.
- The Jeevika scheme has created 11 lakh self-help groups (SHGs) comprising of 1.40 crore women which have empowered the state with financial independence.
Impact
It is anticipated that the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojna would generate local jobs and boost the entrepreneurship of women alongside making households more prosperous to augment the wider Bihar vision of social and economic empowerment.
