On 22 September 2025, during Sharadiya Navratri, the Uttar Pradesh government rolled out Mission Shakti 5.0 to renew the message on the importance of women safety, dignity, and empowerment. The campaign, to be spearheaded by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, will be based on an improved policing program, legal assistance, and community awareness at a high interdepartmental coordination level.
Bigger Policing and Community Presence.
The campaign uses all PRV-112 vehicles to prevent crime and increase foot patrol as well as reassure citizens. Top police officers are going to the streets- patrolling, mingling with the people, and overseeing operations on the field. The 1090 helpline used by women is fully active, and the distress calls are addressed in time.
Role of Women Police Force
One of the greatest achievements is the use of 44,177 women police workers in 57,000 village panchayats and 14, 000 urban wards. The female officers are going to communities to sensitize people on the rights of women, government schemes and safety. The festive season is being placed under special attention and special focus in the public places and the Anti-Romeo Squad has been strengthened to avoid any form of harassment and to make the women feel safe.
Legal and Awareness Programs.
Mission Shakti 5.0 is not restricted to policing. Gender equality and women rights short films are being aired in the schools and colleges to create awareness at an early age. The pink booths in the municipalities offer women one-stop access to support services. Moreover, women in jails are also getting legal assistance, so their rights are not violated.
No Tolerance to Criminals.
The state is pursuing its zero-tolerance policy. The Anti-Romeo Squad is endowed with responsibilities of operating very fast in catching the perpetrators and awareness in handling the victims. Expanded legal aid and fast-track courts are supposed to provide justice immediately.
Continuing on the Past Success.
Past stages of Mission Shakti have targeted a total population of more than 2.03 crore women by conducting 3.44 lakh programmes and had put in place above 27,000 women police. Other special operations such as Operation Garuda (cybercrime), Operation Bachpan (child rescue), and Operation Nasha Mukti (drug offences) were very successful and thousands of arrests were realized.
National Model on Women Safety.
Uttar Pradesh has now become the leader in India in terms of dealing with sexual cases on time with it recording the highest case disposal rate at 98.80 on the ITSSO portal. Mission Shakti 5.0 reinforces the positive example of community involvement, aggressive policing, and awareness by women, which is an active model of the state, which should be followed by other states.
