Mann Ki Baat Highlights Tripura’s Water Conservation Success

Tripura’s Vanghmun Village Sets Example in Water Conservation

In a recent episode of Mann Ki Baat, Narendra Modi appreciated the efforts of Vanghmun village in Tripura for solving water problems through community action. The village, located in the Jampui Hills, has become a model for sustainable development.

Transformation of Vanghmun Village

Vanghmun, situated at about 3,000 feet above sea level, earlier faced serious water shortages, especially during summer. Due to its hilly terrain and limited natural water sources, people struggled daily. Today, the situation has improved greatly with the use of rooftop rainwater harvesting systems across the village.

Strong Community Participation

The success of this initiative is mainly due to active involvement of villagers. Around 300 families worked together to adopt rainwater harvesting. Awareness campaigns and collective efforts helped people understand the importance of saving water. This unity turned a major challenge into a successful solution.

Support from Local Administration

Local officials also supported the project. Asit Kumar Das, who was then Block Development Officer, played an important role in spreading awareness and guiding the initiative. He described the recognition on Mann Ki Baat as a proud moment for the village.
