LVM3’s Flawless Record Boosts ISRO’s Gaganyaan Human Spaceflight Mission

LVM3 success strengthens India’s human spaceflight roadmap

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has reiterated confidence in its ambitious Gaganyaan human spaceflight programme following the successful launch of the BlueBird Block-2 communication satellite aboard the LVM3 rocket. ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan stated that the same launch vehicle has been identified for India’s first crewed mission, highlighting the organisation’s growing technological reliability and global standing in space exploration.

LVM3’s perfect success record

Addressing the media, Narayanan underscored that the LVM3 launch vehicle has achieved a 100 per cent success rate since 2017 . This unbroken record is critical as the rocket undergoes the rigorous human-rating process required for astronaut missions. He noted that repeated flawless launches provide strong technical confidence, particularly for safety-critical missions involving human crew.

Commercial milestone with BlueBird Block-2

The LVM3-M6 mission successfully lifted off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota , at 8:55 am IST, placing the BlueBird Block-2 satellite of US-based AST SpaceMobile precisely into its designated Low Earth Orbit. ISRO described the spacecraft as the heaviest payload ever launched by LVM3 into LEO , marking a major achievement for India’s heavy-lift capability and reinforcing its reputation as a dependable global commercial launch provider.

Broader exploration vision

Narayanan also confirmed that Chandrayaan-4 and Chandrayaan-5 have received approval, indicating continuity in India’s lunar exploration strategy. Referring to the success of Chandrayaan-3 , he said several advanced spacefaring nations, including Japan, have shown interest in collaboration. According to him, India has now reached technological parity with leading global space powers.

Political leadership and strategic impact

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated ISRO scientists and engineers, calling the LVM3-M6 mission a proud milestone that strengthens India’s role in the global space economy and reflects the spirit of Aatmanirbhar Bharat .
