AIIMS Vijaypur Becomes India’s First AIIMS with a Gen Z Post Office

Jammu & Kashmir has taken a significant step towards modernising postal services with the inauguration of its first Gen Z Post Office at the AIIMS Vijaypur campus . The initiative is part of the Department of Posts’ broader strategy to transform conventional campus post offices into technology-driven, youth-oriented service hubs. With this launch, AIIMS Vijaypur has become the first AIIMS in India to host a Gen Z Post Office.

Inauguration at AIIMS Vijaypur

The Gen Z Post Office was inaugurated on 17 December 2025 by Prof. (Dr.) Shakti Kumar Gupta , Executive Director and CEO of AIIMS Vijaypur. The ceremony was attended by Shri D. S. V. R. Murthy , Chief Postmaster General, J&K Circle, and Shri Shah Nawaz Khan , Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Jammu Postal Division. Faculty members, staff, students and senior postal officials were present, reflecting strong cooperation between the health and postal sectors.

Vision Behind the Initiative

Speaking at the event, Prof. Gupta noted that the Gen Z Post Office aligns with AIIMS Vijaypur’s vision of providing accessible and modern public services within the campus. The concept is aimed at redesigning postal delivery to suit the needs and expectations of younger users by emphasising convenience, speed and digital integration. It also reflects India Post’s effort to remain relevant in an era of changing consumer behaviour.

Youth-Centric Features and Services

Designed specifically for Generation Z , the post office offers a modern ambience, digital payment facilities and simplified service processes. It integrates postal, banking and insurance services at a single location while promoting awareness of India Post Payments Bank , postal savings schemes and value-added services among students and healthcare professionals.

To commemorate the occasion, a special postal cancellation was applied to all outgoing mail from the AIIMS Vijaypur Post Office on the opening day. The initiative highlights India Post’s ongoing transition towards a modern, inclusive and future-ready public service system.
