Jal Jeevan Mission Crosses 15.71 Crore Rural Tap Water Connections 

  • A significant milestone has been that the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) has connected over 15.71 crore rural homes to tap water, which is over 80 percent of the rural India since the program was launched in August 2019.
  • The mission has now shifted away to developing infrastructure to its concern with sustainability, functionality and steady service provision.
  • Next Phase Priorities
    • Sustainability - Water conservation and preservation.
    • Functionality- The provision of daily supply of water, not only installed facility.
    • Service Delivery -Safe and frequent tap water to all rural households.
  • Peyjal Samvad of District Collectors.
    • Hosting of first national meet in New Delhi in order to:
    • Enhance district level execution and responsibility.
    • Further cross-learning by use of case studies and sharing of innovations.
    • Develop peer support networks to govern better.
  • Governance Tools & Reforms
    • Live Dashboards - Track supply, cover and complaints.
    • Digital Integration -Monitoring the village through digital platforms such as eGram Swaraj.
    • Grievance Redressal Applications and Citizen Feedback Applications.
    • Scheme Convergence- Incorporation with PM Gati Shakti, watershed programmes, etc.
    • Capacity Building-Training officials to copy models of successful water in the country.
  • Target: To achieve long-term and sustainable rural tap water service.
