Indian Army to Host First International Military Adventure Challenge Cup

IMACC 2026 Highlights India’s Military Sports Diplomacy

The Indian Army will organise the inaugural International Military Adventure Challenge Cup (IMACC) 2026 from February 18 to 23 in the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas . According to the Ministry of Defence, the event will assemble military teams from India and friendly foreign nations for a series of high-intensity adventure and endurance challenges.

IMACC 2026 is structured to evaluate fundamental soldiering attributes, including physical endurance, mental resilience, leadership, teamwork and decision-making in demanding mountain environments.

Multinational Participation

Military contingents from seven friendly countries — Bhutan, Brazil, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia — will participate. Indian teams will include representatives from the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, Indian Coast Guard , and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) .

The multinational composition reflects India’s expanding defence partnerships and its emphasis on confidence-building measures through non-combat military engagements.

Operationally Relevant Challenges

The competition will feature terrain-driven events designed to simulate real operational conditions encountered by armed forces in mountainous regions. Activities will test endurance, navigation, obstacle negotiation, survival skills and coordinated team manoeuvres.

By replicating field-like scenarios, IMACC seeks to enhance operational readiness while promoting best practices in adventure-based training methodologies.

Military Sports as a Diplomatic Tool

International military sporting events have long functioned as instruments of defence diplomacy, fostering camaraderie and mutual trust among participating forces. Many such initiatives are conducted under the framework of the International Military Sports Council (CISM) , guided by the motto “Friendship through Sport.”

India has maintained active engagement with CISM and previously hosted the 4th CISM Military World Games in 2007 , strengthening its standing in global military sports.
