India Signs ₹7,995-Crore MH-60R Seahawk Support Deal
India has entered into a significant defence sustainment agreement with the United States valued at ₹7,995 crore , aimed at ensuring long-term support for the Indian Navy’s MH-60R Seahawk helicopters. The pact, concluded on November 28, 2025 , comes amid diplomatic strain following Washington’s decision to impose steep tariffs on Indian exports earlier in the year. Despite these tensions, the deal underscores the strategic continuity in Indo–U.S. defence cooperation.
Key Features of the Support Package
The Ministry of Defence confirmed that Letters of Offer and Acceptance were signed under the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) framework. The five-year sustainment plan includes assured provision of critical spares, technical support, maintenance tools, and training modules for naval personnel. India originally contracted 24 MH-60R helicopters in 2020 , and this new support arrangement is essential to maintain their full operational capability.
Capabilities of the MH-60R Fleet
Manufactured by Lockheed Martin, the MH-60R is a highly advanced maritime helicopter equipped for anti-submarine warfare (ASW) , surveillance, maritime interdiction and search-and-rescue missions. The deal also provides for the creation of local repair, maintenance and inspection infrastructure, which will help reduce downtime and improve deployment readiness across naval air stations and frontline warships.
Strengthening Self-Reliance and Domestic Industry
By establishing intermediate-level maintenance facilities within India, the agreement aligns with the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision. The move is expected to create new opportunities for domestic manufacturers, including MSMEs, to participate in supply chains and component servicing, thereby enhancing India’s long-term defence autonomy.
