BIMSTEC Youth Exchange Strengthens Innovation and Regional Cooperation

India hosted the BIMSTEC Young Professionals Exchange Programme in Maharashtra from 9 to 15 March 2026 , aiming to deepen regional cooperation and knowledge exchange among emerging leaders from the Bay of Bengal region. The initiative focused on showcasing India’s innovation ecosystem while fostering collaboration among young professionals in technology, entrepreneurship and research.

Participation from BIMSTEC Countries

The programme brought together around 30 young professionals , including innovators, entrepreneurs and technology developers from member nations of BIMSTEC .

Participants engaged in interactive sessions, workshops and collaborative discussions. These activities were designed to facilitate the sharing of ideas, experiences and best practices across countries, encouraging cross-border cooperation in innovation-driven sectors.

Exposure to India’s Innovation Ecosystem

A major component of the programme involved familiarising participants with India’s rapidly expanding start-up and research landscape. Delegates were introduced to innovation hubs, research institutions and entrepreneurial networks that are contributing to economic growth.

The programme highlighted how technology, research and entrepreneurship are integrated into India’s development strategy, offering insights into scalable models that can be adapted across the BIMSTEC region.

Interaction with State Leadership

During their visit, participants met Devendra Fadnavis , who emphasised the state’s strengths in technology, knowledge industries and innovation. He highlighted Maharashtra as a key hub for industrial growth and start-up development, offering opportunities for international collaboration.

The interaction underscored the role of state-level ecosystems in supporting global partnerships and innovation networks.

Strengthening Regional Collaboration

The initiative was announced by Narendra Modi during the 6th BIMSTEC Summit . It reflects India’s commitment to enhancing youth engagement and building long-term professional networks across the region.

By encouraging dialogue and cooperation, the programme aims to strengthen regional connectivity, promote innovation partnerships and support sustainable economic development within the BIMSTEC framework.
