In-Flight Yoga Routine Launched to Boost Passenger Health

Ministry of Ayush Introduces 5-Minute Yoga for Air Travellers

The Ministry of Ayush has introduced a specially designed five-minute in-flight yoga routine to promote wellness among air travellers. Launched during Yoga Mahotsav 2026, the initiative focuses on integrating preventive healthcare practices into everyday activities like air travel.

Focus on Preventive Healthcare During Flights

The initiative highlights yoga as an effective tool for maintaining both physical and mental well-being, even in confined spaces such as aircraft cabins. It aligns with the government’s broader strategy of promoting yoga as a daily lifestyle habit to support preventive healthcare.

Addressing Risks of Prolonged Sitting

Long-duration flights often lead to stiffness, fatigue, reduced blood circulation and increased stress. In some cases, prolonged immobility may increase the risk of Deep Vein Thrombosis. The in-flight yoga routine aims to counter these risks through simple movements and breathing techniques that can be performed while seated.

Simple Routine Tailored for Accessibility

Developed by the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, the routine includes gentle exercises such as shoulder rotations, ankle stretches, and seated spinal twists. It also incorporates breathing practices like Anulom Vilom and Bhramari, along with short meditation. The protocol is simple, requires no equipment, and is suitable for all passengers.

Encouraging Wellness in Daily Life

The initiative promotes small, consistent lifestyle changes to improve overall health. By encouraging passengers to stay active during flights, it aims to enhance circulation, reduce anxiety and improve comfort, demonstrating that wellness can be maintained even during routine travel.
