Deployment of INS Sunayna as Part of IOS SAGAR Mission

The maritime realm has become competitive, going beyond oil and trade to include resources such as seabed minerals, rare earth minerals, and data infrastructure. With geopolitical rivalries growing, seas have taken up a new strategic significance, calling for coordination between states.
Security Threats Facing the Region
There are many threats facing the Indian Ocean Region including piracy, fishing crimes, and narcotrafficking. There are thousands of maritime incidents every year, together with a number of seizures of narcotics. These security threats emphasize the need for naval coordination in the area.
