ICC ODI Rankings Update: Rohit Sharma Loses Top Spot to NZ’s Daryl Mitchell

Mitchell Overtakes Rohit to Become New World No. 1 ODI Batter

New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell has taken over the No. 1 spot in the ICC ODI batting rankings, ending Rohit Sharma’s brief reign at the top. The latest rankings update follows a series of strong international performances that reshaped the global cricket standings across formats.

Daryl Mitchell Creates History for New Zealand

Mitchell climbed to the top after scoring yet another commanding century—his seventh in ODI cricket—during the ongoing series against the West Indies. His consistency and match-winning form have resulted in a career-high ranking, making him only the second New Zealand batter to reach the No. 1 ODI position, following Glenn Turner who last achieved the feat in 1979.

Rohit Sharma, who recently reclaimed the top position after a century in Sydney, slipped to second place. The rankings update reflects how tightly contested the top ODI batting spots remain, with multiple players in close competition.

Ripple Effects Across International Rankings

Pakistan’s 3–0 ODI series sweep against Sri Lanka brought substantial ranking movements. Mohammad Rizwan rose five spots to joint 22nd, while Fakhar Zaman climbed to 26th. In the bowling department, Abrar Ahmed gained a place in the top 10, and Haris Rauf moved up to 23rd, highlighting Pakistan’s strong recent performances. Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan continues to dominate the ODI bowling charts.

In the Test format, South Africa’s Temba Bavuma broke into the top five batters for the first time. India’s Shubman Gill advanced to 11th, while Jasprit Bumrah remains the top-ranked Test bowler. South Africans Marco Jansen and Simon Harmer also made notable advancements after their impactful spells in Kolkata.
