Guntur to Host National SARAS Mela 2026, Showcasing Women-Led Rural Enterprises

Guntur district is poised to achieve a significant milestone by hosting the prestigious National SARAS Mela for the first time in January 2026. The event, a flagship initiative under the National Rural Livelihoods Mission, will spotlight the economic empowerment of women through sustainable rural livelihoods.

A National Platform for Artisans and Entrepreneurs

Scheduled to run from  6 to 18 January 2026 , the 13-day fair will transform Guntur into a vibrant national hub for women entrepreneurs. Approximately  300 women artisans and Self-Help Group (SHG) members from 21 States and Union Territories  are expected to participate. This includes DWCRA (Development of Women and Children in Rural Areas) groups from Andhra Pradesh, who will gain invaluable national exposure, market access, and insights into contemporary product standards and marketing techniques.

Inauguration and Strategic Significance

The exhibition will be formally inaugurated by the  Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh  at 4:00 PM on  8 January 2026 , in the presence of the Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications. Hosting this national event underscores Andhra Pradesh's commitment to women-led development and provides a major platform to showcase its flagship rural livelihood programs on a pan-India stage.

Celebrating Craft, Cuisine, and Culture

Visitors can experience India's rich artisanal diversity through an array of authentic handmade products. The mela will feature:

  • Handicrafts:  Bamboo crafts, traditional jewellery, home décor, and eco-friendly jute products.

  • Handlooms:  Renowned weaves such as Pochampally and Gadwal.

  • Culinary Delights:  A dedicated All-India SHG Food Court will offer regional specialties like Rayalaseema cuisine, Madugula Halwa, Bheemili Thandra, and Atreyapuram Pootharekulu.

Beyond Exhibition: Capacity Building and Entertainment

The event extends beyond sales, incorporating structured  capacity-building sessions  on key livelihood themes led by expert resource persons. A special  'Lakhapati Didi Pavilion'  will highlight inspiring success stories of women entrepreneurs. Each evening will feature cultural programs with inter-state and district-level performances, adding to the festive atmosphere.

Comprehensive Logistics and Security

Ensuring a smooth and secure experience, the organizers have implemented robust arrangements, including  24x7 surveillance with over 100 CCTV cameras . Participating SHG members will be provided with  free accommodation, food, and transport . The mela is being organized by  Guntur Zilla Samakhya  in collaboration with the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) and the Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP). It will be held at the  Open Ground opposite Reddy College, Adarsha Nagar, Guntur , with  free entry for all visitors .
