Assault or use of criminal force against an advocate may result in imprisonment up to two years and a fine up to ₹55,000 .

If the attack causes grievous hurt , punishment may extend to seven years of imprisonment and a fine up to ₹1 lakh .

Acts of intimidation or harassment could lead to imprisonment up to two years and fines up to ₹25,000 .
Addressing Threats During Professional Duties
The draft legislation also addresses serious threats directed at advocates. If a threat involves death, grievous injury, or destruction of property , the punishment could extend to seven years of imprisonment .
The government emphasised that interfering with advocates while they are performing lawful duties may obstruct litigants’ fundamental right to obtain legal representation and pursue justice.
