Ministry to Commemorate World Day of Social Justice with Preamble Reading at NLU Delhi

The  Department of Social Justice & Empowerment (DoSJE) , under the  Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment , will organize a special programme on  February 20, 2026 , to mark the  World Day of Social Justice . The event, being held in collaboration with  National Law University (NLU), Dwarka, New Delhi , will feature a collective reading of the  Preamble to the Constitution of India , led by  Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Shri B. L. Verma .


Global Observance and Constitutional Alignment
World Day of Social Justice is observed annually on  20 February  to promote global efforts toward  social inclusion, eliminating discrimination, and reducing inequalities . The observance resonates deeply with India's constitutional framework, which mandates the State to secure  Justice—Social, Economic and Political —along with  Liberty, Equality and Fraternity  for all citizens.


Reinforcing Constitutional Values Among Youth
The reading of the Preamble is intended to  reinforce awareness of constitutional principles  among students and stakeholders. Senior officers of the Department, officials from the  National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) , faculty members, and students of NLU Dwarka will participate, symbolizing a  collective commitment to constitutional governance and social justice .


Institutional Collaboration for Social Empowerment
The Department of Social Justice & Empowerment is responsible for implementing welfare schemes for  Scheduled Castes, Other Backward Classes, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities . Collaborating with academic institutions like NLU Dwarka helps  promote awareness, research, and legal literacy  on equity and rights. By hosting the event at a premier law university, the Department aims to  deepen engagement with future legal professionals , fostering informed citizenship aligned with the constitutional vision of an  inclusive and equitable society .
