GeM Milestone: A Shift Towards Digital Procurement

GeM has reached an accumulated Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) of 18.4 lakh crore, and more than 5 lakh crore in FY 202526 alone. This is an important milestone of how fast India is moving towards digital procurement systems and the increasing work of GeM to achieve a more transparent, efficient and accessible public procurement.

Indian debut in Granada.

India began its campaign at the ISSF World Cup rifle and pistol stage at Granada, Spain with a historic performance. Palak and Mukesh Nelavalli, young shooters, won the gold in the 10m air pistol mixed team event with a world record score of 487.7. The performance is also a junior world record highlighting their high accuracy and calmness in the international scene.

New menace to Saffron growing.

Recently, the feeding of saffron corms in the ground by the Indian crested porcupine has been reported in the Kashmir region causing significant agricultural losses. The animal interferes with the growth of crops at a tender age by hollowing out the corms before they are in a position to grow. This practice is currently being regarded as a threat that is increasingly threatening to the cultivation of saffron, a major source of livelihood in the area.

Another Achievement of History in Para Archery.

Payal Nag, a 18 year old Odia archer, has created history by becoming the first quadruple amputee in the world who won the first international gold medal in archery. Her winning situation at World Para Archery Series Final at Bangkok is a historic first in Indian para sports, and illustrates the changing inclusivity in world sports.

India is unique with regard to the world opinion.

India has become one of the brightest exceptions in the world at a time when the general mood is rather pessimistic. The Ipsos survey What Worries the World (March 2026) shows that most Indians are confident that the country is headed in the right direction. This is a stark difference to developed economies, in which fears of inflation, geopolitical unrest, and declining growth still threaten to sink the spirit of the people.
