Oman’s Shift to Polymer Currency: Design, Security and Significance
Oman has taken a notable step in modernising its currency system with the unveiling of its first-ever polymer one-rial banknote. Issued by the Central Bank of Oman, the new note will officially enter circulation on January 11, 2026, and will coexist with the existing paper-based one-rial notes as legal tender. The move marks an important upgrade in durability, security, and design standards for the Sultanate’s currency.
