Veteran tribal leader and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) founder Shibu Soren has been posthumously awarded the Padma Bhushan in the field of public affairs. The honour, announced by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs on the eve of the 77th Republic Day, recognises his pivotal role in championing tribal rights and leading the prolonged struggle for the creation of Jharkhand as a separate state. The announcement has also reignited political demands for conferring the Bharat Ratna on him.
