India Top 10 Carbon Sinks in the World Forest FAO Report

 

  • Carbon Capture: The forests of India have a carbon capture of 150 million tonnes of CO 2 (2021-2025) making India one of the top ten carbon sinks in the world.
  • World Standing: Second after the top three Russia (1,150 Mt), China (840 Mt) and USA (410 Mt); similar to Belarus. Carbon removal in top ten countries consumes almost 90 percent of the world forest.
  • Forest Area and Growth: According to GFRA 2025, India is ranked 9 th in the world in total forest area and 3 rd in annual net forest gain that is a positive indication of afforestation and conservation programmes.

Sevilla Forum on Debt Launched to Address Global Sovereign Debt Crisis

 

  • The Sevilla Forum on Debt was launched on 22 October 2025 during UNCTAD16 in Geneva to tackle rising global sovereign debt challenges. The initiative is led by Spain, supported by UNCTAD and the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA).

  • India recorded 2 million deaths due to air pollution-related diseases in 2023, according to the State of Global Air (SoGA) 2025 report by HEI and IHME, USA — a 43% increase from 1.4 million in 2000.

Bajrang Setu India’s First 132-Metre Cable Glass Bridge to Open in Rishikesh

 

  • India is set to inaugurate Bajrang Setu, the country’s first 132-metre cable suspension glass bridge, in Rishikesh by the end of 2025. Estimated cost: Rs68–70 crore. It will be Asia’s second cable glass bridge.

New Banking Rules from November 1 Multiple Nominees Allowed for Accounts and Lockers

 

  • The Finance Ministry has announced that, effective November 1, 2025, customers can nominate multiple individuals for bank accounts, safe custody articles, and lockers under provisions of the Banking Laws (Amendment) Act, 2025.
