CSIR-NIScPR Marks 5 Years, Reinforces Role in Science Communication and Policy Research
The CSIR–National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (CSIR-NIScPR) celebrated its 5th Foundation Day , underscoring its expanding contribution to science communication, evidence-based policy research and the validation of India’s traditional knowledge systems. The occasion highlighted the institute’s forward-looking emphasis on artificial intelligence, multilingual outreach and global collaboration to strengthen India’s science–policy interface.
Vision for Science Communication and AI Integration
In her welcome address, Geetha Vani Rayasam , Director of CSIR-NIScPR, traced the institute’s evolution from legacy science publishing to a modern knowledge and policy research hub. She stressed the importance of partnerships with international institutions and the strategic use of artificial intelligence to communicate science effectively in regional languages , arguing that inclusive communication is essential for translating research into societal impact.
Traditional Knowledge Validation and Policy Strength
Dr Viswajanani J. Sattigeri , Head of the Traditional Knowledge Digital Library (TKDL) Unit, highlighted TKDL’s global recognition as a unique system for protecting and validating traditional knowledge. She noted that CSIR-NIScPR is the only CSIR laboratory dedicated to such validation. With TKDL now fully digitised, the institute is well placed to deploy advanced analytical tools and strengthen evidence-driven policy research with national and international relevance.
ANRF Perspective and Global Outlook
The Chief Guest, Shivkumar Kalyanaraman , CEO of the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) , praised CSIR-NIScPR’s alignment with ANRF’s vision of positioning India as a global research and innovation hub . He encouraged the institute to “think global,” emphasised cross-disciplinary collaboration among scientists, engineers and AI specialists, and invited NIScPR to leverage ANRF’s Saral AI tool to simplify research outputs and amplify impact via digital platforms.

Launch of SVASTIK and Academic Engagement
On the occasion, Dr Kalyanaraman launched the SVASTIK web portal, a national initiative implemented by CSIR-NIScPR to disseminate scientifically validated traditional knowledge . SVASTIK content is available in English, 19 Indian languages and five foreign languages , significantly widening access. The programme also featured poster presentations by NIScPR PhD scholars and S&T project staff, with the vote of thanks proposed by Kanika Malik , reaffirming the institute’s commitment to innovation, policy relevance and global leadership.
