Brazil’s Climate Push and Forest Fund

  • Brazil, the fifth-largest global emitter , recorded a 17% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in 2024 , driven by curbs on Amazon and Cerrado deforestation . The Tropical Forest Forever Fund , proposed by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva , aims to create a permanent global financing mechanism for forest protection, reflecting his goal of making COP30 a “COP of Implementation.”

India’s Agenda: Fairness, Finance, and Adaptation

  • India will advocate adaptation, technology transfer, and climate finance as its top priorities. The delegation will push for flexibility in the Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA) and insist that indicators reflect national realities rather than uniform global standards. A central focus will be the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) on climate finance, replacing the unfulfilled $100 billion annual commitment . India demands predictable, transparent, and non-debt-creating funding to support developing nations.

Shared Vision for Climate Action

  • Brazil’s proposed “Global Ethical Stocktake” aligns with India’s Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) initiative, emphasizing sustainable living. With renewable energy capacity rising from 81 GW in 2014 to 236 GW in 2025 , India will highlight its progress toward green growth and call for fair, inclusive climate action at COP30.
