Bharat International Rice Conference 2025: Strengthening India’s Global Rice Leadership

  • The Bharat International Rice Conference (BIRC) 2025 will be held from 30–31 October 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi . The event is being organised by the Indian Rice Exporters’ Federation (IREF) , with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry providing only non-financial support such as coordination and facilitation.

Organisation and Government Role

  • The Ministry of Commerce has clarified that BIRC 2025 is a privately organised event focused on promoting India’s rice export potential. The government is not involved in IREF’s internal affairs or funding. Its role is limited to ensuring stakeholder participation and inter-ministerial coordination to support the sector’s growth.

Objectives of BIRC 2025

The two-day conference aims to:

  • Highlight India’s position as the world’s largest rice exporter .

  • Address challenges in the global rice market.

  • Promote sustainable rice production and trade .

  • Facilitate dialogue among exporters, buyers, policymakers, and agricultural experts.

Funding and Partnerships

  • The entire cost of BIRC 2025—including venue, logistics, and hospitality—is being borne by IREF and its co-partners through private sponsorships. The event is co-organised by major trade bodies such as The Rice Exporters Association (TREA), Kakinada , and TREA, Chhattisgarh . The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) is coordinating with relevant ministries to ensure policy alignment.

India’s Rice Export Performance

  • India’s rice exports in 2024–25 were valued at USD 12.95 billion , reaffirming the country’s leadership in the global rice market. Rice remains India’s top agricultural export, significantly contributing to the nation’s agri-trade revenue.

Significance

BIRC 2025 is expected to serve as a key platform for trade dialogue, technology exchange, and policy collaboration. It underscores India’s focus on sustainable trade expansion , value addition , and farmer-centric growth in the agri-export sector.
