Bengaluru Police Add AI Language Support to Namma 112 Emergency System.

An Intelligent Upgrade of Emergency Services.

The City Police of Bengaluru have integrated a multilingual AI system with Namma 112. It is the first step of this sort in India. The aim is straightforward: eliminate language barriers and enhance the response time in case of an emergency.

What is VANKI?

The new system is referred to as VANKI (Multilingual Voice AI on Nationwide Key Interventions). It has now been included in the 112 helpline.
Individuals are able to communicate using their language of choice. The system makes their message to be understood appropriately.

Real Time Translation on Instant Action

VANKI works instantly.

  • It listens to the caller.
  • Translates the message on-the-fly.
  • Forwards explicit information to call handlers.

This aids police, ambulance and fire services to react better and more efficiently.

Supports Many Languages

The system is in over 10 languages.

  • Indian languages Bengali, Gujarati, Odia, Manipuri, Kashmiri, Nepali, Assamese.
  • Foreign languages: French, Spanish, Arabic.

This renders the service applicable to the residents as well as foreigners.

Better Access to Public Safety

Bengaluru is a diverse city. Due to language differences, people tend to find it difficult to explain the emergencies.
This system is a solution to that. It improves:

  • Migrant and worker access.
  • Student and visitor safety.
  • Certainty in emergency communication.

Why This Matters

This upgrade will help to make emergency services more inclusive. It makes it so that language is not a hindrance when one requires assistance. It further demonstrates how AI will enhance the delivery of services to the population.
