Bajrang Setu India’s First 132-Metre Cable Glass Bridge to Open in Rishikesh

 

  • India is set to inaugurate Bajrang Setu , the country’s first 132-metre cable suspension glass bridge , in Rishikesh by the end of 2025. Estimated cost: Rs 68–70 crore . It will be Asia’s second cable glass bridge.

Design and Features:

  • Twin towers inspired by Kedarnath Temple’s sanctum ; one side features Lord Kedarnath , the other Lord Badrinath .

  • Pedestrian deck made of 65–66 mm thick transparent glass panels offering panoramic views of the Ganga River .

  • Central deck accommodates two-wheelers and light four-wheel vehicles , improving local connectivity.

  • Height: approximately 57–70 feet above the river .

Construction Timeline:

  • Began in 2022 , nearing completion as of October 2025.

  • Full operational capacity expected by early 2026 .

Tourism and Cultural Significance:

  • Expected to attract thousands of visitors, boosting Rishikesh’s tourism .

  • Bridges modern engineering with spiritual symbolism , enhancing Rishikesh’s identity as the “Yoga Capital of the World.”

  • Located near landmarks like Parmarth Niketan Ashram and Beatles Ashram .
