Achieved in 2025 , this feat makes IKDRC the only government-run hospital in the country to reach such a volume within one year, highlighting its leadership in affordable and advanced transplant care.
First Public Hospital to Reach the Milestone
Operating under the Gujarat government’s Health Department , IKDRC has steadily expanded its transplant capacity over the years. Official figures indicate that the institute had performed around 400 transplants by November 2024 . In 2025, it crossed 400 transplants by October 7 and went on to complete 500 by year-end , a scale unmatched in the public sector.
Patients From Across the Country
The 500 transplant recipients included 367 men and 133 women . While 330 patients were from Gujarat , as many as 170 beneficiaries came from other states , reflecting the institute’s growing national role. IKDRC has remained a key referral centre for economically weaker patients, delivering high-quality treatment at minimal cost.
Advanced and Specialised Procedures
The 2025 milestone included 157 cadaver transplants , 90 swap transplants , 49 paediatric transplants , and 43 robotic kidney transplants .
