Zomi National Day Highlights Unity and Peace Efforts

The 78th Zomi National Day was commemorated in Churachandpur, Manipur , blending cultural celebration with political and administrative engagement. The programme was held at the Centenary Hall of the Evangelical Baptist Convention (EBC), drawing participation from community representatives, government officials, and security personnel.

Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Losi Dikho attended as the chief guest. The gathering also included MLA K Kumo Sha , members of the Autonomous District Council (ADC), Deputy Commissioner Dharun Kumar S , and representatives of the Assam Rifles .


Cultural Expressions and Collective Identity

The observance featured traditional dance performances, inter-community choirs, and cultural showcases reflecting the heritage of the Zomi people. Mass prayers formed a central component, accompanied by a one-minute silence honouring departed leaders.

Speakers, including leaders from the Zomi Council and the Zomi Re-Unification Organisation (ZRO), emphasised themes of resilience, unity, and socio-cultural continuity. The event reaffirmed the historical and symbolic importance of Zomi National Day for the community across Manipur and neighbouring regions.


Developmental Commitments

Addressing attendees, Dikho stated that the government was reviewing community demands in consultation with the Chief Minister. He announced approval of a turf ground project funded under ONGC, with construction expected to commence shortly.

He further indicated that additional proposals submitted by the Zomi Council would undergo administrative evaluation.


Rehabilitation and Peace Priorities

In media interactions, the Deputy Chief Minister highlighted the need to accelerate rehabilitation for internally displaced persons (IDPs). Authorities view resettlement, housing support, and livelihood restoration as integral to rebuilding stability following extended ethnic tensions.
