10 Brave Women Officers Sail Around the World-IASV Triveni Returns to India Soon

OVERVIEW

Ten women officers from the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force are sailing home. They are on a 50-foot yacht named IASV Triveni. The journey started from Mumbai on 11 September 2025. They have sailed more than 23,000 nautical miles. They stopped at Australia, New Zealand, Argentina, and Cape Town. Now they are sailing from Cape Town to Mumbai. The expedition will end in June 2026. This is India’s first all-women tri-service circumnavigation.

LATEST NEWS: SAILING FROM CAPE TOWN TO MUMBAI

The Indian Army Sailing Vessel IASV Triveni is on its final leg. The yacht left Cape Town and is now heading to Mumbai. The crew of ten women officers includes members from all three services – Army, Navy, and Air Force. They began their global journey on 11 September 2025. By 8 May 2026, they had covered more than 23,000 nautical miles. The yacht is expected to reach Mumbai in June 2026.

ABOUT THE VESSEL – IASV TRIVENI

IASV Triveni is a 50‑foot sailing yacht. It belongs to the Indian Army. The vessel was built in Puducherry. It is strong and built for long ocean voyages. The name “Triveni” means a confluence of three rivers. Here, it represents the three services coming together.

THE EXPEDITION – SAMUDRA PRADAKSHINA

The voyage is named  Samudra Pradakshina . In Sanskrit, “Samudra” means ocean and “Pradakshina” means a circular journey or circumambulation. The expedition started from Mumbai. The crew then sailed to:

• Australia

• New Zealand

• Argentina

• Cape Town (South Africa)

From Cape Town, they are now sailing back to Mumbai. By 8 May 2026, they had covered over 23,000 nautical miles. When the full journey ends, they will have sailed more than 43,000 kilometres in total.

THE CREW – ALL WOMEN, THREE SERVICES

The crew has exactly 10 women officers. They come from:

• Indian Army

• Indian Navy

• Indian Air Force

This is the first time a tri‑service team of women officers has sailed around the world together.

NAVIGATION FEATURES OF THE VOYAGE

The crew has faced challenging seas. During the expedition, they will:

• Cross the  equator twice  (once going south, once coming back north)

• Round  three major capes  – these are famous and dangerous points in ocean sailing

The three capes are:
