India Adds Two Ramsar Wetlands in Bihar Makes 93 in total

Two More Ramsar Wetlands are added in Bihar in India.

India has made another giant stride in the process of enhancing the conservation of wetlands in this country with two new locations in Bihar being added to the illustrious Ramsar list of wetlands of international interest. Inclusion of Gokul Jalashay in Buxar and Udaipur Jheel in West Champaran brings the number of Ramsar sites in India up to 93 (the highest in Asia and the third-largest in the world). This success represents the increased attention of the country to environmental preservation and biodiversity conservation.

India Strengthens its ties with Central American Integration System.

The Indian association with Central American Integration System (SICA) has turned to another level of advancement in 2025. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar described the widening horizons of engagement, especially in the areas of trade, digital innovation and sustainable development, at the recent India-SICA Foreign Ministers' Meeting in New York. This re-emphasis links India to South-South cooperation which has long been the intention of India with Central America.

NGT Stops Construction at Pallikaranai Marsh to conserve the wetland Ecosystem in Chennai

National Green Tribunal imposes a Construction Mora at Pallikaranai Marsh.

This is a major move towards preserving the threatened ecosystem of Chennai in a move by the Southern Bench of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) who suspended all developmental activities within one kilometre of the Pallikaranai Marshland. The directive shall continue to apply until a scientific research identifies the specific zone of influence by the marsh. This order comes on the heels of landfilling and construction within the Perumbakkam wetland that is directly related to the larger system of Pallikaranai.

IUCN sits well with the Dugong Sanctuary in Palk bay in India

Introduction

The Dugong Conservation Reserve in Palk Bay in India has been granted acknowledgement by the international conservation conservatory, the Froenrichszoulde Statsaton (IUCN). The IUCN World Conservation Congress 2025 in Abu Dhabi voted in favour of the resolution using vast majority of the participants who are governments, NGOs and research organisations. This achievement makes the initiative at Tamil Nadu an example in marine conservation and protection of dugongs all over the world.
