Pulse Production Strategy-Roadmap to Self-sufficiency in India

India is now gradually becoming self-reliant (Atmanirbharta) in pulses, with a report of NITI Aayog Strategies and Pathways to Accelerate Growth in Pulses providing the roadmap. The country is the largest producer and consumer of pulses in the world but still imports part of what it needs. The new strategy presents a national plan to decrease the reliance on imports, increase the productivity, and assure both nutritional and economic demands.

Gastrochilus Pechei Orchid was discovered in Arunachal Pradesh

The orchid species Gastrochilus pechei has been recorded new in Vijoynagar, in Arunachal Pradesh, at 1,200 metres. It was first described in Myanmar, and the finding underscores the floristic relationship between the two areas and confirms the status of Arunachal Pradesh as the Orchid State of India, where approximately 60 percent of the orchid species in the country are found.

MoTA Seeks Separate Census Enumeration of PVTGs

The Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India has been requested by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs(MoTA) to be able to separately list Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) in the next Census. It is intended to gather specific information about households, persons, and their socio-economic and cultural characteristics in order to increase the success of such schemes as PM JANMAN.

Manipar Signs a Pact to Suspend Kuki-Zo Militants

The Union Home Ministry and Manipur government signed a revised Suspension of Operations (SoO) pact with 24 Kuki-Zo insurgent groups on 4 September 2025. The deal comes after ethnic clashes between Kuki-Zo and Meitei communities since May 2023 and aims to restore peace before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit on 13 September. It strengthens verification of insurgent cadres, reaffirms Manipur’s territorial integrity, and ensures reopening of key transport routes.

Foreigners Tribunals

The Immigration and Foreigners Order, 2025, by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) gave the authority of the first-class judicial magistrate to Foreigners Tribunals (FTs). It is an order that mainly applies to Assam where FTs have been used but it authorizes the detention of those who cannot establish their Indian nationality. It supersedes the 1964 Foreigners (Tribunal) Order, and comes after the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, which repealed older legislation.
