Tourism to Gurudongmar Lake has begun recovering after more than two years of disruption caused by the South Lhonak Lake glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) in October 2023. The disaster had severely damaged roads and destroyed several bridges, cutting off access to large parts of North Sikkim. Connectivity has now improved following the reopening of the Chungthang–Lachen road and the inauguration of the 400-foot Taram Chu bridge, enabling authorities to resume issuing tourist permits for visitors travelling to the region.
