A Human Touch: What Teachers Are Saying
Mrs. Savita Sharma, a primary school teacher in Lucknow, said, “Earlier, if someone in my family needed hospitalisation, I had to borrow money or use my savings. Now I feel secure. The ₹5 lakh cover is a big relief.” Mr. Rajesh Kumar, a secondary school teacher from Meerut, added, “The online registration is simple. I completed it in ten minutes. The cashless card is now on my phone. This is a great gift from the Chief Minister.” These voices show how the scheme is already bringing peace of mind to teachers.
Why This Scheme Is Important
Teachers work hard to educate children. But many of them do not get good health benefits. Private school teachers often have no insurance. Government school teachers have some benefits, but not cashless treatment. This scheme fills that gap. It ensures that if a teacher or a family member falls seriously ill, money will not be a problem. It also reduces the financial burden on the state’s health system by using private hospitals.
Differences from Other Schemes
Many government employees in UP get health benefits through the Uttar Pradesh Government Employees’ Health Scheme . However, that scheme often requires reimbursements. The new teachers’ scheme is cashless . That is a major advantage. You do not have to pay first and claim later. Also, the cover amount (₹5 lakh) is the same as PM-JAY. Teachers can also use private hospitals, which may offer better facilities.
The Road Ahead
The portal has just been launched. The government will conduct awareness campaigns in all districts. District education officers will help teachers register. The list of empanelled hospitals will be published on the portal. The government may also add more hospitals over time. Teachers should register as soon as possible to get the card.
